What is Laser Skin Resurfacing?

This advanced procedure is ideal for tightening skin and reducing facial wrinkles, scars, and blemishes. Newer laser technologies provide plastic surgeons with increased control in laser resurfacing, allowing for exceptional precision—especially important for delicate treatment areas.

Laser skin resurfacing uses short, concentrated, pulsating beams of light to treat irregular skin, removing damaged skin layer by layer incredibly precisely.

We Offer: Clear + Brilliant®, Erbium-YAG, and Halo™ Treatments

Our practice utilizes the Erbium-YAG, Clear + Brilliant®, and Halo™ resurfacing lasers. These options range from gentle treatments with minimal downtime to more intensive procedures with longer-lasting results.

Candidates for Laser Skin Resurfacing

While most people are candidates for laser skin resurfacing, the ideal patient should meet the following criteria:

  • Not experiencing active acne
  • A minimal amount of excessive or sagging skin

Lasers We Use

We offer a range of advanced laser treatments designed to rejuvenate the skin, improve texture, and address various skin concerns. Below are the specific lasers we use, each tailored to meet different skincare needs:

Clear + Brilliant®

Clear + Brilliant® is a gentle, non-invasive fractional laser treatment that enhances the skin's appearance by creating microscopic treatment zones in the upper layers of the skin.

This stimulates natural healing, boosting collagen production and encouraging fresh, healthy skin cells to replace damaged ones.

Best For:

  • Treating early signs of aging, such as fine lines and wrinkles
  • Improving skin tone and texture
  • Minimizing the appearance of pores
  • Addressing sun damage and hyperpigmentation
  • Safe for all skin types

Halo™ Laser

Halo™ is the world’s first hybrid fractional laser, combining ablative and non-ablative wavelengths to treat the skin's surface and deeper layers. This dual action targets sun damage, pigmentation, and signs of aging while improving skin texture and tone.

Best For:

  • Reducing fine lines and wrinkles
  • Correcting sun damage and pigmentation issues
  • Shrinking enlarged pores
  • Improving overall skin texture
  • Minimizing the appearance of scars, including acne scars

Erbium Laser (ProFractional™)

The Erbium laser is a fractional resurfacing treatment that delivers precise energy to deeper layers of the skin. It removes damaged skin while stimulating collagen production for long-lasting results.

Best For:

  • Deep wrinkles and lines
  • Acne scars and surgical scars
  • Severe sun damage
  • Uneven skin tone and texture

Recovery and Results from Laser Skin Resurfacing

Clear + Brilliant® - Offers a short recovery period, with minimal redness and sensitivity for a day or two. While results are subtle, this treatment is ideal for younger patients or those seeking to maintain their skin’s youthful glow. The procedure will need to be repeated more frequently to maintain results.

Pricing:

$499 per session

Halo™ - offers noticeable improvements with moderate downtime, typically a few days of redness and peeling. It provides more comprehensive results than Clear + Brilliant®, making it ideal for those looking to address more advanced skin concerns.

Pricing:

$1,950 per session

Erbium-YAG - requires a full week of recovery, but the results are dramatic and can last several years. This option is ideal for patients with more severe skin concerns looking for significant and long-term improvements.

Pricing:

$4,180 per session

What can I Expect During the Procedure?

Cosmetic laser skin resurfacing is generally an outpatient procedure that lasts between 30 minutes and 2 hours, depending on the aesthetic goals that are being achieved. To prepare for the procedure, your face will be thoroughly cleaned and you will be given eye protection.

Erbium YAG lasers vaporize superficial and damaged skin cells. Because this is a deeper ablative and some outer layers of skin are removed, our laser treatments require local anesthetic injections or intravenous sedation to keep you comfortable and relaxed. Dr. Vila will numb the skin with local anesthetics after using oral anesthesia.

If your goal is extensive skin resurfacing, or if you are having other cosmetic procedures simultaneously such as a facelift, Dr. Vila will use a general anesthetic. To manage your pain and comfort after the procedure, you may receive pain medication. Following your procedure, you should expect some degree of tenderness in the treatment site. Additionally, Dr. Vila can recommend safe ways to control any lingering pain or discomfort after laser resurfacing treatment.

What can I Expect After Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Skin treated with laser resurfacing will usually feel like a mild sunburn. You will likely have some:

  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Itching or stinging
  • Dry and/or peeling treatment site

These side effects generally last for just a few days after the procedure, generally no more than five days. Erbium-YAG laser resurfacing can have one full week of recovery time.

After laser skin resurfacing, you may see an immediate difference in the treated skin which will continue to improve for up to a year. In some cases, one single laser treatment will address your concerns. However, you may need a series of treatments to achieve a tightened and smooth complexion. Once the treatment series is complete, the results are long-lasting and worth the investment.
